Glasgow School of Art site visit
The Glasgow School of Art’s Architect and design students made the long journey to South Cowal recently to start work on their very own Castle Toward project.
Under the guidance of tutors Tom Warren and Irene Bell the students are to reimagine the estate and uses for its walled gardens, outdoor spaces, holiday cottages, gatehouses and 1820 Mansion house, not to mention the inclusion of the scheduled ancient monument Toward Castle, once home to the clan Lamont.
During the visit the students managed to cover on foot the whole estate, even venturing to the perimeter of the property to view the Chinese Lakes. No mean feat considering its a fifteen minute hike up a very muddy path. The students soaked up all that the estate had to offer and were quick to give their thoughts and opinions on what they saw.
We greatly look forward to seeing what ideas they come up with and look forward to see in them all again in South Cowal.
